Make 2019 Your Best Year Ever
Take some time to prepare yourself for a great 2019 by making achievable plans and resolving to work toward your goals.
Regardless of how good or bad 2018 was to you, the change of the calendar represents a refresh of your life to some extent. While circumstances dictate much of how we live our lives, there are always ways to make the days ahead more positive if we take the right steps.
Take stock of your 2018
A good way to start off your 2019 would be to take stock of your 2018. What were your personal positives for the year? What, within your control, were you not as pleased with? Consider the changes you can make in your life that may help you increase your positive outcomes in 2019 and reduce your negatives.
Think about previous New Year's resolutions
You don't have to reflect only on the past year. Think about various New Year's resolutions you've made over the years. Which ones did you stick to? Did your life improve as a result? Which ones have you tried, but failed to achieve? Are these still goals you'd like to set? Think about what kept you from achieving them and how you can overcome these obstacles. Just because you haven't met goals in the past does not mean you can't still strive for them.
What is missing from your life that you wish was not?
Take a few moments to consider what is missing from your life that would make you happier or more fulfilled if you had it. Although the first things that come to mind may be material possessions (a more reliable car or a bigger house), you may find that other things may have a bigger impact on your happiness (a better relationship with your spouse, a less stressful job, a firmer grasp on your religious faith). Then, consider how you could go about having that thing or at least working toward obtaining it. If it's something that's not easy to come by, figure out a path to help you achieve your goal. How have others achieved it? Do some research if necessary, then put in the time and effort required.
This may be something that can be obtained within the year, or maybe 2019 can be the beginning of your quest, but as long as you're working toward that missing part of your life, you may find some level of fulfillment knowing that you are on your way.
How can you improve your health?
What is your health situation? There's no better way to make 2019 your best year yet than to make it your healthiest. Do you need to get more exercise? Lose weight? Gain it? Are you getting all the nutrients you need in your daily diet? Are you at risk for any conditions due to your current health, your daily habits, or your family history? When was the last time you had a physical?
These are all questions worth asking yourself as you enter the New Year. Feeling healthy and confident that you will feel good for years to come can be a great way to feel better about your life in general.
How can you improve your financial situation?
Perhaps an improvement in your financial health can bring some peace of mind to your life in 2019. Are you financially comfortable now? Are you on track to be financially secure for the rest of your years? Are you discussing your future finances with your spouse or partner? If you aren't content with your savings or your retirement plan, why not make 2019 the year you make these things a focus? Make an appointment with your banker to discuss your current situation and make plans for your future.
How can you help others?
Many people gain a great deal of fulfillment by helping other people. This may be through charitable donations (which don't hurt when you're filing taxes) or volunteering in your community, or it may be as simple as lending a hand in day-to-day situations, whether it be a neighbor or a stranger. If you make helping others a significant part of your life in 2019, it's very likely that you will feel better about yourself and your own life.
Avoid what doesn't improve your life
There will be 365 days in 2019, and on every one of those days, you'll be faced with choices. Every decision you make, no matter how small, plays a role in the bigger picture. Try to be more mindful of the choices you make and how those choices will impact your life. This could be anything from saving money by choosing an off-brand product, to skipping seconds on dinner. The choices you make add up, so make as many good ones as possible.
Best wishes for a great New Year!
