NSB Private Bank: Nevada Cybercrime Losses Surge to $302M, Ranking Third Nationally
LAS VEGAS – Nevada ranked third in the nation for cybercrime complaints and financial losses in 2025, with total losses climbing to more than $302 million, according to a new report released today by The Private Bank by Nevada State Bank. The latest edition of the bank’s High Net Worth Report examines cybersecurity trends across the state, including how cybercriminals are targeting individuals and what households can do to help protect themselves.
Nevadans filed 13,366 cybercrime complaints with the FBI in 2025, highlighting the growing scale and sophistication of digital threats impacting residents.
Key findings from the report include:
- Cybercrime is rising rapidly: Nevada residents reported more than $302.2 million in losses in 2025, a nearly sevenfold increase since 2020.
- Scammers increasingly exploit trust: Criminals frequently impersonate trusted individuals or institutions to convince victims to transfer funds or share sensitive information.
- Quick action can limit damage: Victims should immediately contact their bank, alert law enforcement, and change passwords on compromised accounts to help reduce further losses.
- Prevention is critical: Households are encouraged to keep software up to date, enable two-factor authentication, and create a response plan before an incident occurs.
“Nevada’s cybercrime losses have increased dramatically in recent years, underscoring how important it is for individuals and families to take proactive steps to protect themselves,” said James Rensvold, Executive Vice President and Director of Private Banking. “While cybercriminals are becoming more sophisticated, many attacks still rely on gaining trust. Preventive measures, such as using strong, unique passwords and preparing a response plan in advance, can help protect both your financial assets and personal information.”
The report provides additional insights into cybercrime trends affecting Nevada households, along with practical steps individuals can take to help reduce their risk and respond quickly if they are targeted.
