Artown, a month-long summer arts festival, brings the arts to life in Reno each July with a packed calendar of events. Artown has been inspiring community through the arts since 1996, growing exponentially each year. This July’s festival will feature nearly 500 events produced by more than 100 organizations and businesses at over 130 locations throughout Washoe County and surrounding communities. Artown captures the imagination and brings with it a celebration of distinguished artists from around the world, while nurturing home-grown talents from Northern Nevada. It is a repeat winner for "Best Festival/Fair" in the Reno Gazette Journal's Best of 2022 Awards reader's poll.
According to Artown Executive Director Beth Macmillan, this year’s festival theme, “Voices of Artown,” recognizes the many voices in the Northern Nevada community who make Artown possible, “through their art, their creativity, through their dedication to their craft, through their civic participation, and through their community-building.”
Most festival events are free or low cost. As a nonprofit organization, Artown depends on support from corporate sponsors, foundations and individual donors for the funding needed to bring some of the world’s greatest artists and performances to the Reno community. In doing so, Artown has given Reno a new reputation as a city with a vibrant artistic and cultural community.
“As a festival sponsor of Artown, Nevada State Bank is incredibly proud to support the artistry, diversity, creativity and inclusivity of this annual event,” said Rick Thomas, EVP/Northern Nevada Executive for Nevada State Bank. “This year, NSB is supporting an awareness effort called ‘Keep Artown Free.’ The festival currently offers nearly 70% of its 500-plus events for free to the public. But costs are rising, and they need help.”
Donations to Keep Artown Free will make it possible for Artown to provide 22 days of free kid’s arts discovery, fund free music programs in schools, deliver free arts outreach to underserved communities, and present free concerts with world-class performers in accessible public venues.
