Celebrating the beauty and resilient spirit of Northern Nevada

West Liberty Mural: Time Lapse

As an artist, Melanson’s mission is "to build creative experiences that elevate social sublimity, instill love into the world and provide an opportunity for joyful conversation and imaginative exploration.”

In 2021, Nevada State Bank commissioned artist Jesse Melanson (JMEL) to paint a mural on its
West Liberty building in Reno live during Artown, the city’s beloved annual arts and culture festival. Created in 12 days, the mural showcases Melanson’s signature low polygon style and bold color palette.

In May of 2023, NSB invited Melanson to add his personal touch to its Fernley Branch at 250 US Highway 95 in celebration of the Fernley ACES - Arts and Culture Event Squad’s annual Fernley Music, Murals and Margarita Festival.

During the Brewery Arts Center’s Murals & Music Festival in
September 2023, Melanson created a third colorful mural at the entrance of
NSB’s South Carson Branch at 4267 S. Carson Street in Carson City.

Melanson is a multidisciplinary artist whose eclectic styles explore the relationship between space and time. As an artist, Melanson’s mission is "to  build creative experiences that elevate social sublimity, instill love into the world and provide an opportunity for joyful conversation and imaginative exploration.

For Melanson, art and design are uplifting adventures into the ways in which we consume information. They allow the opportunity to take a progressive approach into how we experience and interact with one another and the universe around us. He believes fundamentally that the more beautiful, colorful and creative our world is, the more happy and vibrant communities are.

WEST LIBERTY BRANCH MURAL

The West Liberty design is intended to represent the future and technology, and how they contrast with the earth, water, and natural surroundings of the Reno area. Melanson’s goal was to create something that is relatable to anyone in Reno, while showing the beauty of the high desert mountains and surrounding waterways.

“I want the art to help ground people and make them feel welcomed at West Liberty while recognizing the beauty of the area. I hope this mural inspires people to be creative and get outdoors, and go explore this beautiful landscape,” said Melanson. “At West Liberty, the low polygon style I’m using highlights the melding of technology and nature, two very powerful resources that can work together.”

FERNLEY BRANCH MURAL

The Fernley mural features one of Nevada’s treasures, the wild mustang, in the midst of the low polygon style landscape. Inspired by the family of wild horses that can often be seen grazing near the branch, the mural embodies the vibrance, beauty, and resilience of northern Nevada.

SOUTH CARSON BRANCH MURAL

The majestic bighorn sheep represented in Melanson’s colorful mural at NSB’s South Carson Branch is Nevada’s official state animal. An appropriate symbol for the state’s capital city, the rugged bighorn thrives throughout Nevada, including the mountains around Carson City.
