Hello everyone! Thank you for reading, and I’m looking forward to sharing what I’ve been up to lately since starting my journey as a college student-athlete. In January, I began school at the University of Virginia. It has definitely been a big change for me, but I feel like I am managing it well and have been loving the new experience so far!
Now that I’m living on my own, there are a lot more responsibilities that I have to take care of: training well, eating healthy, schoolwork, and getting enough rest.
One habit that has really helped me right now is creating and sticking to a financial budget. This is something that I started in high school, but it wasn’t until I began working with Nevada State Bank that I learned how weekly budgeting can be tied into longer financial goals. Just like goal setting in swimming!
Here are a few budgeting tips that I have been using to help me stay financially fit:
Save Money by Going to the Grocery Store
Now that I’m in college, I have to be extra careful about spending. One way I save money is by planning my meals. Instead of eating out or ordering food, I make a list, go to the grocery store, and prepare my meals for the week. This helps me accomplish two goals at the same time: save money and eat healthy.
Refrain from Buying Coffee Every Day. Save It As a Special Treat!
Another way I save is by skipping expensive coffee runs. I love my coffee trips, but buying coffee every day can cost a lot. So, I brew my own coffee at home most mornings. It’s a small change, but over time, it saves a lot of money. Plus, it can be a reward for completing one of your small goals for the week. Iced coffee always tastes better when you earn it!
Have a Longer-Term Goal That You’re Saving For
This is something that I learned from my friends at Nevada State Bank. One of my future professional goals is to start my own business in Las Vegas. I know that will take money, so I’ve started to save now. When that time comes, having a good relationship with your bank is really important. Luckily, I’ve got that part already checked off! One thing my bank manager taught me is, “Knowing your future financial goals helps you have the discipline you need for today.”
Thank you for reading, and I hope you find this helpful! Looking forward to keeping you updated on my progress both in and out of the water.
Just like in sports, having the right team makes all the difference. Nevada State Bank helps me feel confident about my money and my future. Whether you’re an athlete, a student, or just someone trying to save, having a plan is important. When you take control of your money, you take control of your future.
Being smart with money is just like training for a big race. It takes practice and smart choices. Thanks to Nevada State Bank, I’m not just making waves in the pool—I’m making smart money moves too!
